Lancaster, PA – Just two years ago, Jonathon, a courageous teenager from Lancaster, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a rapidly growing tumor that develops in the fourth ventricle of the brain. Jonathon immediately had surgery to remove the tumor. Since that time, he has been in and out of the hospital and has had to relearn how to walk and eat. Jonathon has been undergoing rigorous chemotherapy treatments over the last year and visits his doctors frequently.
Jonathon’s cancer however, hasn’t slowed down his spirit or adventurous nature. Recently, this incredible kid enjoyed an exciting afternoon away from his worries for a while thank to his friends at Kids Wish Network. When Jonathon, a thrill seeker at heart, was approved for a wish with the charity that grants wishes to kids with life-threatening illnesses, he knew just what he wanted to do: he wanted to go sky diving!
Jonathon’s Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator, Jessica, was more than happy to get started on his wish. She quickly contacted Kutztown Skydiving Center in Kutztown, PA and was excited to learn that the owner was eager to help out.
Soon, Jonathon was headed thousands of feet up…and then thousands down.
Jonathon’s mother, Joann, tagged along on his big day. She admitted that skydiving wasn’t exactly something she’d been dreaming of doing but if Jonathon could do it, so could she.
After about a half hour of training at Kutztown Skydiving Center, Jonathon boarded a small plane which carried him over 10,000 feet up. Then it was time to jump. While Joann was a little nervous, she said Jonathon had no reservations.
“It was quite an experience for him,” she smiled. “It was just a great thing. Just last year, he was barely walking and now this!”
Afterwards, mother and son were treated to a delicious lunch at Damon’s Grill where everyone got to watch the video of Jonathon’s jump.
Joann said the entire experience was one neither she nor Jonathon will ever forget. “It was just awesome! It was really, really neat!”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Jonathon’s wish come true: Damon’s Grill and Kutztown Skydiving Center.
