Bryan, TX – In February of 2007, 16-year-old Jana of Bryan was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. ALL is a cancer which causes too many underdeveloped infection-fighting white blood cells to develop in the blood and bone marrow. Since her diagnosis, Jana has undergone aggressive chemotherapy treatments; her doctors must continue to monitor her condition carefully.
Recently, this courageous teenager enjoyed a very special break away from her worries for awhile thanks to Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. When Jana’s Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Vanessa, asked her for her number one wish, Jana didn’t hesitate: she wanted to visit Washington, D.C!
Vanessa immediately got to work. She not only booked airfare for Jana and her family, she also booked luxury hotel accommodations at the beautiful Henley Park Hotel, arranged for fun activities in the area and more. It would prove to be a trip that Jana will never forget.
Jana’s trip began with a presidential air. She started out with a trip to The White House for an exciting tour. Later, a park ranger from the National Park Service stopped by to pick her up and take her on a city tour, pointing out the monuments along the way.
At the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Jana got to see how money is made. She also took in a tour of the Capitol building.
Vanessa had even more in store for Jana who enjoyed a private tour of the National Air and Space Museum and later had a blast at the Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Jana returned home from her special wish trip with memories that she will treasure forever. This courageous girl learned that sometimes dreams really do come true.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Jana’s wish extra special: Barnum and Bailey Circus, Butterfield 9, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Chef Geoff’s Downtown, The Henley Park Hotel, Limousine Services, LLC, The Melting Pot, Morton’s of Chicago, National Air and Space Museum, National Park Service, Park Ranger and The White House.
