Coffeeville, MS – Ten-year-old Dekedric of Coffeeville is a friendly boy with a sweet-natured personality. Dekedric can usually be found playing video games or watching his favorite show, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, on television. A huge football fan, Dekedric never misses the chance to cheer on his favorite team, the Atlanta Falcons. He also loves collecting football and baseball cards. While in many ways, Dekedric is a typical kid, there is something that makes him unique from his peers: Dekedric suffers from a life-threatening condition.
Dekedric was born with caudal regression syndrome, an abnormality of the lower spine that typically results from incomplete closure of the lower vertebrae during fetal development. CRS is extremely rare and can be tremendously serious. Dekedric struggles daily with his health. In addition, he has hydrocephalus, or ‘water on the brain’ which requires a shunt to drain the excess fluid.
Recently, this brave boy enjoyed a very special break away form his worries for a while thanks to Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Dekedric has been anonymously referred to the charity and was later approved for a wish. This amazing kid knew just what he wanted to do: he wanted to go on a shopping spree.
Dekedric’s Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jessica, got right to work. She started making calls and was soon excited to learn that there were plenty of people in Dekedric’s community who wanted to help. Everyone involved was eager to make Dekedric’s spree a day he will never forget.
However, before Dekedric’s exciting wish day even arrived, he was thrilled to receive a huge box packed to the brim with games, toys, dolls and other goodies courtesy of Jessica and Kids Wish Network’s distribution center. Kids Wish Network’s distribution center is proud to be able to provide wish kids with top of the line products donated by some of America’s top toy and game manufacturers.
Jessica arranged for hotel accomodations for Dekedric and his mom at Hilton Garden in Southaven where, on the morning of his wish, he was stunned to see a sleek limousine arrive outside of the hotel, waiting to ferry him off for his grand shopping expedition.
His first stop was Wal-Mart, followed by a trip to Old Navy and later a visit to JC Penney. He took a break from shopping for a delicious lunch at Long Horn Steak House.
At the end of the day, Dekedric climbed back into the limousine with all of his boxes and bags, exhausted but elated. It was definitely a day this special boy will never forget.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Dekedric’s wish come true: Hilton Garden Inn Southaven, JC Penny, Long Horn Steakhouse, Old Navy, Sfax Limousine and Wal-Mart.
