Morrow, GA – 15-year-old DeMarco of Morrow was born with an illness known as Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome. WAS is an extremely rare disorder that is characterized by very low levels of blood platelets; the condition can often lead to excessive bleeding and recurrent infections. WAS also greatly impairs the immune system. DeMarco’s body is incapable of fighting any sort of infection, no matter how small. He must visit his doctors frequently and have infusion treatments through a port in his chest.
Recently, this courageous teenager enjoyed a very special break away from his worries for awhile thanks to his friends at Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to kids between the ages of 3 and 18 with life-threatening illnesses.
DeMarco’s mother, Jennifer, learned about the charity after she was contacted by one of Kids Wish Network’s professional fundraisers. When she was asked if she knew of a child who might qualify for a wish, Jennifer immediately thought of DeMarco and submitted his name. Soon, Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Vanessa, called with the good news: they were ready to get started on making DeMarco’s wish come true.
When Vanessa asked DeMarco for his number one wish, he didn’t hesitate: he wanted to take a trip to California. Vanessa immediately got to work. She not only arranged for airfare for DeMarco and his family to Los Angeles, she also secured luxury hotel accomodations, arranged for meals, spending money and more. The trip would prove to be one that DeMarco will never forget.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make DeMarco’s wish extra special: AirTran Airways, Bubba Gump Shrimp, Co., California Pizza Kitchen, DreamWorks, Hollywood Wax Museum, Le Merigot Hotel, Pacific Park, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Rusty’s Surf Ranch, Tony Roma’s, Universal Studios and Wilshire Limousine.
