‘Mapping’ the Way to a Better You in and Out of the Office

Holiday, FL – Employees at Kids Wish Network, an organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories and improving the qualify of life for children, recently enjoyed an exciting and interactive team building seminar on the inner workings of relationships at the office. In the process, they learned a little more about themselves, all through a program that literally maps personalities. This unique program is called People Map training and the folks at Kids Wish Network had a blast on their journey.

Ellen Schuster-Nastir, M.Ed., CPCC of Focus by Design Coaching, and who utilizes People Map training in her coaching seminars, spearheaded the afternoon’s session.

The seminar began with a simple questionnaire. The People Map questionnaire consists of only seven questions, but the answers will end up telling the test takers more about themselves than they ever thought they knew. Developed by Michael Lillibridge, Ph.D., psychologist, president and founder of the Peoplemap™ System, it has a 95% accuracy rate of measuring personality types.

“I have seen the results of Peoplemap training have tremendous impact improving the cohesiveness and productivity of each office/team I have worked with,” said Ellen Schuster-Nastir. “It’s wonderful seeing individual’s faces light up when they discover new communication skills they hadn’t realized previously. Skills immediately able to be put to direct use in their work environment and ultimately creates an atmosphere where they are easily able to function at a higher quality level. They learn not only valuable information about themselves, but others they work with and the bonus is—it helps with their personal relationships, as well!”

The test has proven immeasurably effective at identifying personality types in the workplace and improving communication between co-workers, enhancing work productivity, developing teams and enhancing customer relationships. It’s also a pretty fun exercise.

Employees at Kids Wish Network had a light-hearted and eye-opening couple of hours learning a little bit about Peoplemapping as well as learning more about themselves and their fellow co-workers. After each individual was identified in their personality category, Ellen instructed them to group up with their like personalities. That was when the seminar got spirited…and incredibly enlightening.

During the group sessions, each group not only described their own traits – the good, the bad and the ugly – but also listed on paper the positives and negatives of the other personality types. The goal: to recognize and appreciate different personalities, learn how some traits can enhance an office environment and also to demonstrate ways everyone can overcome what can be seen as their own weaknesses. The result: a more cohesive, productive and happier workforce.

Madeline Robinson, Wish Department Manager of Kids Wish Network, said she thoroughly enjoyed the seminar. “It was really enlightening to learn so much about ourselves and to realize how your co-workers perceive you. I think it will make me much more aware of how I interact with people and perhaps how I can even improve on my communication with them.”

“Ellen’s workshop is a great team-building tool; it not only gave us a better understanding of ourselves and our co-workers, but it showed us how each personality enhances the team,” said Anna Lanzatella, Director of Development and Donor Relations at Kids Wish Network.
