Paris, TX – Just a year ago, 16-year-old Destiny of Paris was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Doctors discovered a mass on her pancreas and performed surgery in which they removed more than half of her pancreas and her entire spleen. The cancer is a recurring cancer and her doctors expect it to return. Destiny will likely begin chemotherapy treatments soon but for now must take daily medications and go for frequent CAT scans.
Recently, this brave teen enjoyed a very special break away from her worries for a while thanks to Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Destiny’s exciting day began with a simple phone call.
Not long ago, Destiny’s mother, Sheila, learned about Kids Wish Network after receiving a call from one of the charity’s professional fundraisers. When asked if she knew of a child who might qualify for a wish, Sheila immediately thought of her brave daughter. Sheila submitted Destiny’s name and soon received the good news: Destiny had been approved.
When Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jill, asked Destiny for her number one wish, Destiny didn’t hesitate: she wanted to go on her very own personal shopping spree.
Jill immediately began the arrangements to make her dream come true. She not only arranged for the participation of various shops at the Stonebriar Center in Dallas to help out with the spree, she also had some other surprises in store for Destiny. This brave young girl was ready for a special day away from thinking about her illness and that was exactly what she did!
Destiny spent the night before her spree in a glorious room at the Embassy Suites Dallas Frisco. There were few stores at the mall that Destiny didn’t get to. Like most teenage girls, she wanted new clothes! She and her mother and grandmother enjoyed a delicious lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. She also stopped by Glamour Shots where she got glammed up for some professional photographs and that night had dinner at The Cheesecake Factory.
Destiny returned home from her special wish trip tired, but with plenty of new things and even more amazing memories. For this extraordinary girl, it truly was a dream come true.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Destiny’s wish extra special: Abercrombie & Fitch, The Body Shop, Barnes & Noble, Brighton Collectibles, California Pizza Kitchen, The Cheesecake Factory, Clark’s Shoes, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Embassy Suites Dallas Frisco, Fast-Fix Jewelry, Glamour Shots, The Great American Cookie Company, In Your Face Apparel, Macy’s, The Kiwanianne Club of Paris, Circle CC Ranch and the Stonebriar Center.
