Sundown, TX – Three-year-old Cyle of Sundown is a lively little guy who most enjoys playing with his toy trucks and cars and listening to Disney music. A special kid with an affinity for football and cartoons, Cyle also loves playing games on his Playstation and says his favorite snack is fresh veggies. While in many ways, Cycle is a typical pre-schooler, there is something that makes him unique from his peers: Cyle has a very serious life-threatening medical condition.
Just a year ago, Cyle was diagnosed with Langerhans cell hystiocytosis. LCH is a rare disorder characterized by the overproduction of a specific type of white blood cell in the various tissues and organs of the body. In Cycle’s case, the condition led to the development of a brain tumor on the base of his skull. Shortly after his diagnosis, Cyle began undergoing aggressive chemotherapy treatments. His doctors continue to monitor his condition extremely carefully.
Recently, Cyle enjoyed a very special break away from his worries for a while thanks to Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Cyle’s exciting wish adventure began with a simple phone call.
Not long ago, a friend of Cyle’s mother, Steffanie, received a call from one of Kids Wish Network’s professional fundraisers. When asked if she knew of a child who might qualify for a wish, the friend immediately thought of Cyle and submitted his name. Before long, Steffanie was contacted by Kids Wish Network and sent an application for Cyle. Soon, the family received the good news: Cyle had been approved for a wish. This brave little boy knew just what he wanted to do: he wanted to go to Disney World! His Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jill, immediately got to work.
Jill not only secured airline tickets to Florida and arranged for theme park passes to the many parks there, she also booked hotel accommodations, made dinner reservations for the family at area restaurants, arranged for spending money and more. Cyle was in for a truly spectacular trip!
Soon after arriving in Florida, Cyle and his family checked into the beautiful Royal Plaza Hotel in Downtown Disney. “The hotel was wonderful,” raved Steffanie. “Everyone there went above and beyond for us!” With an itinerary full of things to do however, the group would spend little time in their room.
During his busy stay in the Sunshine State, Cyle hit just about every park he could get to including, the Magic Kingdom, the Animal Kingdom and Sea World. Steffanie said Cyle especially loved the Animal Kingdom where he enjoyed embarking on an exciting safari ride and getting up close and personal with some of the animals. “He went to a little petting zoo and played with a boa constrictor,” she laughed. “He loved it!”
At Sea World, Cyle had a blast watching the animal shows but was most impressed, said Steffanie, with getting to pet the sting rays at the sting ray pool. “He had a good time with that!”
On his final night in Orlando, Cyle enjoyed his farewell dinner at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater. “He was included in the show,” said Steffanie. The pirates dressed their protégé accordingly, outfitting Cycle with a red coat and black pirate hat. “He just giggled and laughed the whole time,” smiled his mom.
Cyle returned home from his trip tired, but with plenty of pictures and souvenirs and even more amazing memories. Steffanie said it was a trip they will never forget. “”It was wonderful. One night while we were there, Cyle was still awake. He was just high on cloud nine and he said, ‘Daddy, I’m so happy!’” she recalled. “He just finished chemo two months ago and it was the first time n a year we’ve been able to do anything.” Steffanie was incredibly grateful to Jill and Kids Wish Network for making it all happen. For this special boy, it truly was a dream come true.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Cycle’s wish extra special: Johnny Rockets, The Lakeview Restaurant, Midland International Airport, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Ponderosa, The Royal Plaza Hotel, Travelodge Midland and Wonderworks.
