A Brave Little Girl from Maryland Meets her Idol, Chris Brown

Waldorf, MD – 12-year-old Domonique of Waldorf is an incredibly brave little girl who has already been through more in her young life than many people have in a lifetime. Born with spina bifida, a neural tube defect that occurs when the spinal column fails to close completely, Domonique is unable to move anything below her waist and is wheelchair dependent. She has endured countless surgeries including one to close her spine and another to insert rods into her back.

In spite of all she has been through however, Domonique is an engaging and spirited girl who faces each day with positive determination. One person who was particularly moved by Domonique’s story and inspired by her courage was her own hero, pop singer, songwriter and actor, Chris Brown. Domonique met the singer thanks to her friends at Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

Domonique’s adventure to Atlanta to meet her all-time favorite singer in person began soon after her mom, Marie, learned about Kids Wish Network while surfing the Internet. Once Domonique was approved for a wish with the charity, she wasted no time in telling her wish coordinator, Jill, what she wanted most. She wanted to meet Chris Brown. She’s a huge fan and couldn’t think of anything more exciting to do for her special wish!

The singing sensation was more than happy to oblige. Jill arranged for Domonique and her family to travel to Atlanta where Chris had a concert scheduled. She also booked hotel accomodations for the group at the beautiful Westin Peachtree Plaza. “The hotel was beautiful!” said Marie. “We had a gorgeous view.” Of course, with an itinerary packed full of things to do, the family would spend little time there.

On the day of the big meet and greet with Chris Brown, Domonique, her parents and older brother, Leo, were picked up in a sleek limousine in front of their hotel and whisked off to the Chastain Park Amphitheater. Bridget Maddox, a representative from Atlanta Spirit, met with the family and accompanied them to the theater. “Bridget was really awesome,” said Marie. “She was so helpful with everything.” After Domonique arrived, she waited anxiously with her family backstage. When Domonique saw Chris coming in the door, laughed Marie, she was over the moon. “I thought she was going to cry. She just started screaming she was so excited!”

Marie was touched by how down to earth and friendly Chris was with Domonique. “He was just a really nice person. He talked with her and took pictures. He was really a sweetheart!” Chris spent time getting to know Domonique and signing several things for her including a picture and some t-shirts. “He was wonderful and very accommodating to her,” said Marie.

After the meet and greet was over, the family headed to their seats to watch the show. Chanda Dabney, the assistant manager of customer service at Philips Arena, graciously arranged for tickets to the concert. Domonique was thrilled with the entire day’s events. “It was great!”

Marie was incredibly grateful to everyone involved in making Domonique’s wish one she will never forget. “It was all magnificent! Jill put together a marvelous trip.” She was also of course, grateful to Chris Brown and everyone on his end who were so excited about being a part of Domonique’s day. “Everyone was so nice. It was really a wish come true!”

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Domonique’s wish extra special: Atlantic Limo, Baraconda Café Italiano, Chastain Park Amphitheater, Hard Rock Café, Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site, Piccadilly Café, Stone Mountain Park, the Westin Peachtree Plaza and of course, Mr. Chris Brown!
