Aiken, SC – A local girl diagnosed with cancer gets the chance to take her family to Florida for a magical Disney vacation thanks to Kids Wish Network.
Carley loves chocolate, playing board games, and is absolutely crazy about pandas! She adores watching her favorite movies and TV shows, especially ones starring her idol, Miley Cyrus, and has a weakness for shopping. She loves plenty of things, but loves her family most of all.
Ten-year-old Carley has Ependymoma, which is a recurring tumor that is wrapped around her brainstem. She has undergone rigorous chemotherapy treatments and has had multiple transfusions. Carley has gone into respiratory failure and has had several strokes. This brave girl struggles daily with her condition. She is also experiencing difficulty with her mobility and is wheelchair dependent.
Carley’s family found out about Kids Wish Network through her father’s co-workers, who wanted to do something extra special for their little “miracle” and nominated her for a wish.
Knowing she would get only one wish, Carley chose to use it to surprise her little brothers instead of wishing for something for herself. She wanted everyone to keep it a secret from the boys. As they had family in Florida, Carley’s Wish Coordinator, Jennifer, found it easy to plan a whole trip out “undercover.” Donna, Carley’s Wish Funding Specialist, found a sponsor to make Carley’s wish come true while Jen worked her own special magic and organized an Orlando vacation complete with trips to Sea World and Universal Studios along with a wonderful day at to Disney World!
When her family arrived at Disney World after visiting their relatives, Carley was ecstatic to see how surprised her little brothers were. The boys thought they were only going to visit family and go home! “She WANTED to do this for her brothers,” said her father, Scott. “She was just happy to have the whole family all together.”
While at Disney, Carley made sure to do everything that her brothers wanted. When the boys wanted their faces painted, she made the whole family stop to get their faces painted; when there was a character one of the boys had to meet, they met that character. Of course, Carley got to have her fun too: “She was just thrilled to have her face painted and her hair braided.”
Carley’s father, Scott, couldn’t thank Kids Wish Network enough for granting his daughter’s wish: “From day one, working with Kids Wish Network has been nothing but fantastic.” As for the trip and Carley’s wish coordinator, he said that “Jen was absolutely fantastic and I totally mean that. She was great from the start.” There is nothing like a great surprise and Carley got to have one as well as give one, all because of the efforts of the Kids Wish Network.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Carley’s wish extra special: Wal-Mart #881, The Regal Sun Resort, Pirates Dinner Theatre, Wonder Works, Outback Steakhouse and Bonefish Grill.
