Anna, IL – Brenna has lupus. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that primarily affects the skin, joints, blood and kidneys. It occurs when the body’s immune system loses its ability to differentiate between foreign substances in the body and its own cells and tissues and begins to attack itself. Those suffering with this disease experience severe pain, inflammation of joints and tissues, and eventual organ damage. Brenna’s condition has affected her kidneys and one of them does not function. She also must endure frequent breathing treatments.
This special little four-year-old finally has something really neat to smile about these days thanks to her friends at Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Brenna’s mother, Shirley, learned about the charity after being contacted by one of Kids Wish Network’s professional fundraisers. Shirley explained Brenna’s story and was told that Brenna might qualify for a wish.
Eventually, the good news came: Brenna was not only qualified for a wish, she had been approved for one. Brenna knew just what she wanted: she wanted a backyard playset.
Brenna’s Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator, Jessica, immediately began working on the details of her wish. After making a few phone calls, she was able to garner the generous support of some very kind-hearted folks who wanted to be a part of making Brenna’s dream come true.
Swing-N-Slide donated a beautiful wooden playset structure which included swings, a slide, a rock climbing wall, climbing rocks, a sandbox and more. Andrew Hawthorn, referred to Jessica by Rusty’s Home Center, came out to help set everything up.
Brenna spends as much time as she can outside swinging, climbing and sliding. Sometimes, dreams really do come true!
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Brenna’s wish come true: Kevin Hawthorn and the folks at Swing-N-Slide.
