Hemet, CA – Brittni is an incredibly sweet little girl with an affectionate personality. She absolutely loves watching High School Musical and she’s crazy about the color pink. Brittni also enjoys playing Monopoly, collecting stuffed animals and jumping rope. Her favorite restaurant is McDonald’s and her favorite subject in school is math. While in many ways, Brittni is a typical little girl, there is something that makes her unique from her peers: Brittni has a life-threatening illness called sickle cell anemia.
Sickle cell is a disease in which the red blood cells created in the bone marrow produce an abnormal form of hemoglobin. These blood cells are crescent shaped and have a difficult time passing through the body’s blood vessels to reach the body’s tissues. Those suffering with this disease experience severe episodes of pain and eventual organ damage; they are also at high risk for stroke and cardiac arrest. Brittni has been in and out of the hospital much of her life and must be monitored carefully.
Recently, this courageous girl enjoyed a very special break away from her worries for a precious while thanks to Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Not long ago, Brittni’s mother, Traci, learned about the charity after being contacted by one of Kids Wish Network’s professional fundraisers. When asked if she knew of a child who might qualify for a wish, Traci immediately thought of Brittni. It wasn’t long before this extraordinary child was approved for a wish.
Brittni knew just what she wanted to do: she wanted to go to Disneyland in sunny California. Her Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jessica, immediately got to work.
Jessica not only arranged for theme park passes to Disneyland, she also booked hotel accommodations, made dinner reservations for the family at area restaurants, arranged for spending money and more. Brittni was in for a truly spectacular trip.
Soon after arriving in Anaheim, Brittni and her family checked into the lovely Castle Inns and Suites, located right across from Disneyland. “She loved it there!” said Traci. “We could see the fireworks from our window so every night we got to see them!”
There was certainly no shortage of things for Brittni to do on her special trip. Her first stop was to Disney. Traci said Brittni had a ball. “She had an awesome time there!” Brittni spent the entire afternoon riding rides and meeting some of her favorite Disney characters in person.
Jessica also arranged for Brittni to visit Knott’s Berry Farm. “She had a great time there,” recalled Traci. “She got a VIP badge and she met Snoopy. She was really happy about that!”
Another highlight included dinner at Medieval Times, where Brittni and the other patrons watched a lively show with knights, princesses, kings and jousting! Traci said Brittni absolutely loved it. “It was awesome!” she laughed. “A knight even came over and gave her a flower. She was so excited. You could not stop her from smiling!”
Traci said that the entire experience meant the world to her brave daughter. “She had just an awesome time. She wasn’t ready to come home!” Traci was also incredibly grateful to Jessica and Kids Wish Network. “Everything was like clockwork. We weren’t expecting all of that. It was great!”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Brittni’s wish extra special: Café Del Sol, Castle Inns and Suites, Disneyland Compassion Program, Knott’s Berry Farm, Medieval Times Dinner, Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen and the Red Robin.
