Dayton, OH – 12-year-old Ayrington of Dayton is a loveable kid with a quick sense of humor. He loves being outside and especially enjoys swimming, soccer and playing with his dog. Ayrington is also a major Michael Jordan fan and says his favorite movie is Space Jam.
While in many ways, Ayrington is a typical kid, there is something that he struggles with daily that most kids his age don’t: Ayrington has a life-threatening illness.
Ayrington has a condition called tuberous sclerosis. This is a rare, multi-system disorder that causes tumors to grow on the brain and on other major organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. Ayrington’s tumors have been developing on his brain. In addition, he suffers from severe seizures that have left him developmentally delayed.
When Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, learned about Ayrington, the charity was eager to help bring some joy into this brave young boy’s life. When Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, asked Ayrington for his number one wish, he knew just what he wanted: he wanted his own pool.
Vanessa was able to garner the support of some very special ‘Guardian Angels’ along the way who wanted to get involved in helping to make Ayrington’s wish come true. One such person was Jeffrey Saleeby, who co-owned Breezee Pools with his brother. Jeffrey, moved by Ayrington’s story, was happy to get on board and promised Vanessa that Breezee Pools would help make Ayrington’s wish come true.
Swim ‘n Play donated the pool, Reliable Electric donated the electrical hook up, Miller Brothers Gravel, Inc. donated the sand and Hageman Trucking donated a truck to haul the sand. And of course, Breeze Pools donated installation.
Sadly, shortly before Ayrington’s pool was installed, Jeffrey Saleeby passed away suddenly from a heart attack. His family was committed, however, to honoring Jeffrey’s wish to help fulfill Ayrington’s. It was a decision that bonded Debbie, Jeffrey’s mother, and Ayrington’s mother, Robin.
The day finally came when volunteers from all over arrived at Ayrington’s home to begin bringing his pool dream to fruition. Throughout the long afternoon, everyone worked hard on getting the pool up and running. There was lots of laughter and smiles and an anxious Ayrington hovered close by at all times checking out the action.
It was truly a ‘feel good’ day for everyone involved. And while Ayrington will have the time of his life in his pool this hot summer, his new family of ‘Guardian Angels’ will carry some very special memories of their own for years to come.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Ayrington’s wish come true: Breezee Pools, Hageman Trucking, Miller Brothers Gravel, Inc., Reliable Electric and Swim ‘n Play.
