Olathe, KS – Seven-year-old Annabelle of Olathe is an incredibly special little girl with a smile that can light up a room. This extraordinary girl is an avid reader and says it’s her favorite subject in school. At home, Annabelle can usually be found playing ‘tea party’, sitting down with a good book or cuddling with her two cats. She thinks Robin Williams is hilarious and she loves to go out for cheese pizza.
Annabelle was born with spina bifida, a neural tube defect that occurs when the spinal column fails to close completely before birth. Annabelle has extreme difficulty with her mobility and needs legs braces and a wheelchair for distance. In addition, Annabelle has hydrocephalus which causes fluid to build up around her brain. To drain this fluid, Annabelle has had numerous shunt surgeries. She has been in and out of the hospital much of her young life.
Not long ago, Annabelle’s grandmother, Kaye, received a phone call from Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. When asked by one of the charity’s professional fundraisers if she knew of a child who might qualify for a wish, Kaye thought instantly of Annabelle and submitted her name for consideration.
Annabelle’s parents, Kimberly and Jeffrey, were later thrilled to learn that Annabelle had indeed been approved for a wish with Kids Wish Network. Annabelle knew just what she wanted to do for her wish: she wanted to go to Disney World.
Kids Wish Network took care of all of the details. Annabelle’s Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, booked airfare for she and her family to Orlando, secured hotel accomodations, theme park tickets, spending money and more. It would prove to be a trip this amazing little girl will never forget.
Soon after arriving in the Sunshine State, Annabelle and her family checked into the beautiful Royal Plaza Hotel in Downtown Disney. However, with an itinerary full of things to do, the group would spend little time there!
Annabelle hit just about every park she could get to during her visit including MGM Studios, Epcot, the Animal Kingdom and of course the Magic Kingdom where she got to hobnob with all of her favorite Disney characters.
In addition to theme park tickets, Vanessa arranged for passes to Wonderworks, Orlando’s famous ‘upside-down’ museum and tickets to the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater where patrons watch a live, interactive pirate show while dining on a delicious dinner.
Annabelle returned home from her trip tired, but with plenty of pictures and even more amazing memories. For this incredibly special little girl, it truly was a dream come true.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Annabelle’s wish extra special: Compassion Program, IHop, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, The Royal Plaza Hotel, Sizzler and Wonderworks.
