Maple Valley, WA – A local teen diagnosed with a rare blood disorder experiences the vacation of a lifetime with the help of Kids Wish Network.
For Kim, hitting a homerun is easy; she has excelled at sports, especially softball and volleyball. An active teen, Kim has spent time coaching softball, and now works at an indoor softball facility. The only time she’s ever been “caught off base” was last year when she was diagnosed with Wegener’s Granulomatosis.
An extremely rare disease, Webener’s Granulomatosis causes Kim’s blood vessels to become swollen and inflamed, creating restricted blood flow to her lungs, kidneys and other internal organs. In Kim’s case, forty golf ball-sized masses were found in her lungs, adversely affecting her breathing capability. Since her surgery to remove the masses, Kim has had to alter her busy lifestyle because she now finds strenuous activity to be too taxing.
One of Kim’s doctors at the Overlake Hospital Medical Center mentioned Kids Wish Network to Kim’s mother, Monica, and soon, Kim’s wish for a trip of a lifetime to Disneyworld was on its way to becoming a reality. Through the Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to kids and teens with life threatening illnesses, Kim enjoyed a trip to Disneyworld’s Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot Center and Universal City Walk. Complete with a night at the Pirate’s Dinner Adventure Theater and a shopping trip to her favorite store, Juicy Couture, Kim’s wish for a Disneyworld vacation was a dream come true.
“We had a great time!” says Kim. Kim’s mother, Monica, explained that the service that Kids Wish Network provided her daughter was a much needed diversion from her medical problems. “She definitely needed it,” says Monica.
