Ozone Park, NY – When five-year-old Kelia was approved for a wish with Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, she knew just what she wanted to do. This adorable little girl, who suffers with epilepsy, wanted to go to Disney World and see all of her favorite princesses in person. Kids Wish Network was more than happy to make that happen.
It was a social worker at Maimonides Medical Center where Kelia receives treatment who referred Kelia’s mother, Linda, to Kids Wish Network. Anxious to learn if Kelia would qualify for a wish, Linda contacted the charity and began the application process. Before long, the family received the good news: Kelia had been approved. Before she knew it, Kelia was on her way to sunny Florida and the wonderful world of Disney.
Kelia’s Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator, Jill, took care of all the details of her wish. She flew the family to Orlando, arranged for hotel accomodations and theme park tickets, provided spending money and more. It would prove to be a trip this courageous little girl will never forget.
After arriving in Florida, Kelia and her family checked into the beautiful Royal Plaza Hotel in Downtown Disney. Jill had sent along an itinerary full of fun things to do and the group was eager to get started.
During her stay in the Sunshine State, Kelia visited Epcot, Universal Studios and of course, the Magic Kingdom. Linda said that by far, the Magic Kingdom was Kelia’s favorite. She especially enjoyed hanging out with her new friends including Mickey, Minnie and Pluto and meeting the princesses in person. “The princesses really talked to her,” said Linda. “They told her stories and spent time with her.”
Another highlight of the trip included watching the parades. Linda said they were wonderful. “I started crying,” she recalled. “Just watching the parade and seeing Mickey Mouse and Minnie, Cinderella, Ariel and Peter Pan…and listening to the song about if you believe, your dreams will come true…it was emotional. I just looked at Kelia and thought, ‘Kelia’s dream came true. Kelia finally got to see her princesses.’”
Linda said that the entire experience meant the world to Kelia…and to the entire family. “We’ll never forget this. I have so many thanks for Jill and for everyone else!”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Kelia’s wish extra special: American Legion, Chevy’s Fresh Mex, Flipper’s Pizza, Lakeview Restaurant, Mears Transportation Group, the Moose Lodge, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Pony Express Motorcycle Club, the Royal Plaza Hotel, TGI Friday’s, the VFW and Wonderworks.
