Elyria, OH – An incredibly brave little girl from Elyria recently experienced the trip of a lifetime thanks to her friends at Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Ten-year-old Kimberly, who suffers from chronic pancreatitis, couldn’t believe it when her wish to visit Disney World came true.
When she was just three-years-old, Kimberly was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. This condition causes inflammation of the pancreas and can be extremely serious. It can lead to heart, lung and kidney failure. Kimberly has in and out of the hospital much of her young life and must be monitored carefully by her doctors.
Kimberly’s mother, Christy, learned about Kids Wish Network from a relative who had been contacted by one of the charity’s professional fundraisers. After completing Kids Wish Network’s application process, Christy was thrilled to learn that her courageous daughter had indeed been approved. Kimberly knew just what she wanted to do: she wanted to go to Disney World. Her Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jessica, immediately got to work.
Jessica not only secured airline tickets to Florida and arranged for theme park passes to the many parks there, she also booked hotel accommodations, made dinner reservations for the family at area restaurants, arranged for spending money and more. Kimberly was in for a truly spectacular trip!
Soon after arriving in Orlando, Kimberly and her mom checked into the beautiful Royal Plaza Hotel. With an itinerary full of things to do however, they would spend little time there.
During her exciting stat in the Sunshine State, Kimberly visited MGM Studios, the Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom. Christy said that by far, the Animal Kingdom was Kimberly’s favorite. “She loves animals so she really enjoyed it there!” A highlight at that park was of course, the safari ride. “She loved it,” laughed Christy.
At MGM Studios, Kimberly rode different rides and saw some shows. She especially enjoyed seeing the characters from her favorite show, High School Musical. And at the Magic Kingdom she got to meet some of her favorite Disney characters in person.
On her final night in Orlando, Kimberly dined at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater where she enjoyed a delicious dinner while watching a live, interactive pirate show. “That was really cool,” recalled Christy. “She loved that a lot!”
Kimberly returned home from her trip to much cooler weather but with plenty of special souvenirs and even more amazing memories. Christy noted that it was a remarkable experience for her daughter and she was grateful to Jessica and Kids Wish Network for making it all happen. “She really enjoyed herself. It was a lot of fun!”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Kimberly’s wish extra special: Buffalo Wild Wings, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Red Lobster, the Royal Plaza Hotel and Wonderworks.
