Kids Wish Network sends Amber on a ‘clothes’ out deal

COLDWATER-Listening to music, watching scary movies, and cheering on her favorite football team all make 15-year-old Amber smile. And like most teenagers, she also enjoys eating pizza and playing computer games. But even with all of the similarities, there is something that sets Amber apart from her peers. She suffers from a severe immune disorder that rapidly robs her of her energy and increasingly forces her to rely on a wheelchair.

So when her grandmother referred Amber to Kids Wish Network, a charity that grants wishes to children with life threatening conditions, Wish Coordinator Madeline Robinson quickly charged ahead to give Amber her dream: a shopping spree at Lakeview Square Mall. First, she enlisted the help of the Coldwater Eagles, who generously agreed to sponsor Amber’s wish by providing her with $500.00 worth of mall certificates for her shop-a-thon. Madeline also persuaded some of Amber’s favorite stores in the mall to donate some goodies and gift cards to make her wish complete.

And when the big day arrived, so did the limo that Madeline arranged from Battle Creek Limousines to whisk Amber and her mother to the mall for the dream trip that would be the envy of any teenage girl. Upon arrival, her first stop was at the Customer Service Desk to pick up her certificates, which created the one and only dilemma of the day: where to start! But soon she was off to the many wonderful stores that had generously agreed to be a part of her special day. With all of the shopping working up an appetite, it was a good thing that Madeline had also arranged for Amber and her mother to enjoy lunch at Applebee’s. After refueling, it was time to finish her spree by visiting the stores of her choice with the certificates sponsored by the Coldwater Eagles.

By the end of the day, it was clear that Amber was lucky to have something as big as a limousine waiting for her and her numerous packages. “She got enough clothes to open her own store!” said her mother Tammy. Now no matter what the future holds for young Amber, she can look back on a time when Kids Wish Network made her dream come true; a day when she was able to forget her problems and just be a normal, mall crazy, clothes loving, teen age girl.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank all of the gracious sponsors that made Amber’s wish a dream come true: Battle Creek Limousine, the Eagles Lodge #1907, Marshall Fields, Kay Jewelers, Hot Topic, American Eagle Outfitters, Bath and Body Works, Gadzooks, Old Navy, Applebee’s, and APSCO of Clearwater.
