CLEARWATER – Tim, age 16, of Wauchula, loves baseball, his dachshund named Pee Wee, and like many other teens his age, most of all treasures his truck, a 1986 Ford Ranger. Tim recently placed all of his efforts into repairing his prized possession, but it was in dire need of restoration. For Tim, the truck diverted his attention from the painful medical treatments he had to undergo – he has cystic fibrosis. Tim’s treatments include severe poundings on his chest and back several times a day to help clear his lungs, a feeding tube and a nebulizer machine. The pounding often causes Tim bruising and much pain. To make matters worse, the repairs for his truck became too monetarily and physically overwhelming for him to handle himself. Tim was in need of a special dose of happiness.
When Wish Coordinator Madeline Robinson of Kids Wish Network was contacted about Tim and his only wish to have his truck transformed into a cool set of wheels, she hit the road in search of someone who would become a part of the magical restoration. “Exhaust”ing many avenues, Madeline finally came upon Clyde Walker of Walker Ford who helped to make Timothy’s wish a dream come true.
With the help of Walker Ford, Tim’s truck had dents removed, was repainted and detailed, received a new dashboard cover, a reupholstered floorboard, seat covers, window shades, a new bed liner, netting, tires and a stereo.
Sadly, Clyde Walker passed away in the process of Tim’s wish before its completion. As a man heavily involved in helping the local communities, he would have been overjoyed to present Tim with his only wish. His brother, Frank, took over the special project and helped oversee the truck’s progress until its big debut on December 16. Tim, unaware of the truck’s due date, thought he was going with his family for a day of shopping in Clearwater. To his surprise, it was the day he would be receiving his truck, after its extensive makeover. “It’s so beautiful,” said Tim’s mother Judy. “It was more than we ever dreamed of!” While Tim was too emotional to speak, his uncontrollable tears and need to hug everyone in sight, spoke of his overwhelming happiness.
For Tim, Clyde Walker’s memory will remain in the foundation of the beautiful truck, a true labor of love. Because of many caring people, a special dream was transformed into a true vision of perfection, putting Tim in the driver’s seat.
