NICHOLASVILLE, KY – Until recently, three-year-old Connor had only been on two airplane flights.
And unfortunately he wasn’t traveling on family getaways.
Connor has cardiomyopathy and underwent heart transplant surgery when he was just 10-months-old. He must fly to The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh every six months to have a heart biopsy.
But now, thanks to Kids Wish Network, Connor knows what it’s like to experience a true vacation.
Kids Wish Network sent Connor and his family to “Give Kids the World Village,” a special Kissimmee, Fla.-based resort catering to the needs of children who suffer from life threatening illnesses. Connor and his family spent seven days in Kissimmee where they visited Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, and MGM Studios among many other attractions.
“He keeps telling everyone that he went to Florida on a plane,” said his mother Crystal. “It was great.”
Connor loved anything and everything involving water, whether it was swimming or getting splashed by a world-famous whale.
“Sea World was his favorite because of Shamu,” said Crystal, who added Mickey Mouse and Captain Hook were also big hits.
Connor’s family connected with Kids Wish Network after a professional fundraiser contacted Crystal, who mentioned her own son’s health problems. Wish coordinator Luisa Frederiksen jumped on the case, working with American Airlines to fund the flight to sunny Florida for Connor, his parents, and 7-month-old brother.
“Luisa was really sweet,” Crystal said. “What Kids Wish Network does is the best thing anybody could do for children. It gives them something they will always remember.”
