Jasmine’s new computer is the playground of her mind

TYLERTOWN – Jasmine, nicknamed Jazzy, is an adorable and bubbly 7-year-old who loves Barney, listening to Gospel music and singing and performing “I’m a Little Teapot”. For someone so young, Jasmine has had to overcome many challenges in her life. At a little over a year old she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and this past year her mother passed away. She is cared for by Prencess and Clifford her legal guardians, and is now a part of their loving family with a brother and sister. “She has brought a lot of joy to our lives,” said Prencess. “She is a very sweet little girl who enjoys helping others.”

Jasmine tires easily and has to be very careful when running or even walking for short periods of time, as she experiences great stiffness in her legs and falls down easily. It is because of the difficulties that she has with her legs that Jasmine enjoys swimming so much; the cushioning water provides her mind and body with the freedom to be a playful kid.

Whenever Prencess took Jasmine to the library, the first thing that she always wanted to do was to get on a computer. More than anything, Jasmine dreamed of having one for her very own so that she could play games and create art. When Wish Coordinator Madeline Robinson of Kids Wish Network was contacted about her wish for a computer, Madeline quickly logged in to making Jasmine’s wish a dream come true.

Madeline spoke with Jasmine and learned about all of her interests and favorite things. Taking Jasmine’s likes to heart, Madeline put together a personalized gift package for her so that she would have an extra surprise before the arrival of her computer. It was full of goodies including a digital camera, a one-time camera, audio stories, clothes, jewelry, an assortment of plush dolls, a Barbie and puzzles. The best part was that even though Jasmine received all of her favorite things, she still had her real wish to look forward to.

“Jasmine was so excited when the computer arrived at our house,” said Prencess. “She couldn’t wait to get at it and have the computer set up.” The computer also came with a printer and Internet access for a year. Since being set up, Jasmine has most enjoyed playing games, logging on to the computer with her own password and seeing pictures of herself on the monitor from her digital camera. “Jazzy’s happiness makes our family happy,” said Prencess. “Making a difference in her life makes us feel good.”

Now that Jasmine has her very own computer, she can always get away from it all by playing games or exploring the world on the Internet. Most of all, Jasmine can just have fun being a kid, in the playground of her mind.
