EUPORA-“I am truly blessed, Stanley has just been a miracle to me,” said his mother Judy. According to her, 14-year-old Stanley is truly a people person, always drawing people to him because of his personality. “He has never met a stranger”, Judy said. Unfortunately, this outgoing, personable young man suffers with problems that would make most people dwell in self-pity. He has a condition called Goldenhar Syndrome that causes him a number of problems: heart defects, scoliosis, hydrocephalus, bronchitis, and hernias. He has to receive breathing treatments, antibiotics, CAT scans, and heart checkups. But all of this doesn’t stop Stanley; he plays with his dogs, writes music and plays the electric guitar.
So when Wish Coordinator Melissa North of Kids Wish Network was contacted about this remarkable young man, she quickly jumped into action and made Stanley’s wish of owning a computer a dream come true. Not only did Kids Wish Network give him a computer, he also received a printer, a CD burner, scanner, a Midi sequencer, and Internet access for an entire year. Since Stanley likes to compose music, his new computer and all the accessories make everything much easier. “It’s so great, I’m trying to figure out all of the stuff,” Stanley said.
“I wanted the computer so that I could write my music,” he said. He also wanted access to the Internet, but he isn’t sure yet what part of the computer he enjoys the most. However, he has already scanned photos of his niece and his mother said that he would love to scan photos of their Rat Terriers and possibly make them into calendars. But no matter what, he can definitely put all his artistic abilities and ideas to work.
He may have to suffer through painful treatments and frequent visits to the doctor, but now Stanley can spend his free time learning the ins and outs of his new dream. No matter how tired he gets from playing with his puppies, he can relax in front of his computer and use his mind to turn all of his creative ideas into a reality.
