BROOKNEAL – Tammy, of Brookneal, Virginia, is a bubbly 9-year-old that loves many of the same things as other girls her age. She loves The Backstreet Boys, N ‘Sync, 98 Degrees, watching cartoons and eating pizza. But Tammy is anything but typical. Instead of being as carefree as other kids, Tammy is burdened by two illnesses that greatly effect her health. In addition to having Epilepsy, she was diagnosed late in 1999 with Encephalitis. While Tammy does not understand the full extent of her health conditions, the endless testing and doctor’s visits have created a difficult year for her.
Tammy was in need of a special dose of happiness, so when Wish Coordinator Terri McConn of Kids Wish Network was contacted about this special little girl, she quickly went to work on creating a wish that would give Tammy something special to look forward to. Terri would soon be sending Tammy and her family on a vacation to Florida to experience the fun of its many amusement parks, and to share special moments at Give Kids the World in Kissimmee, a magical resort full of laughter, joy and hugs, catering to the unique needs of families who have children with life threatening illnesses.
Once at Give Kids the World, Tammy and her family ate at the resort’s whimsical restaurants and took part in all of the fun-filled activities offered to all of its special guests.
During their vacation, the family enjoyed a full Orlando experience, visiting Walt Disney World theme parks, Universal Studios and Sea World. All attractions were compliments of Kids Wish Network and Give Kids the World. American Airlines provided roundtrip airfare for Tammy and her family.
While Tammy will still face the uncertain challenges of battling her illness, her family will always cherish the wish they shared together, when everything was absolutely perfect – in “Tammy’s World”.
