HARTVILLE – Joshua, age 15, of Hartville, Missouri, enjoys many of the same things as other teens his age. Joshua idolizes Chuck Norris, loves playing video games and eating pizza. However, while most teens crave independence, Joshua is lucky to have a loving family who he can be dependent upon. He suffers with cerebral palsy and has a seizure disorder. Joshua is confined to a wheelchair, needs a special communication device to interact with others and requires help with all of his daily activities.
When Wish Coordinator Kara Stecker of Kids Wish Network was contacted about Joshua’s only wish to have a laptop computer, she quickly went to work and made his dream come true. It was such an exciting day when his special wish arrived at his house. As an extra surprise, Joshua also received Internet access for an entire year.
Because Joshua cannot take part in high-energy activities, having a computer to play video games and explore the world, means more to him than other kids. Playing a video game, Joshua can become active and transform himself into someone who can run, jump and race. Having Internet access, Joshua can visit places and see sights that he otherwise may never have the capability to experience.
Since receiving his laptop, Joshua continues to enjoy all the benefits of his new computer. “Joshua loves playing on his laptop while he waits for the bus,” said Kim, Joshua’s mother. He also finds it helpful with his studies.
Now that Joshua’s wish has come true, he can get away from it all and enjoy just being a teen – in the playground of his mind.
Our deepest gratitude goes out to Gateway for offering the laptop computer at a discounted rate, making Joshua’s wish possible.
