AMPLIN – Jabari, age 9, of Pamplin, Virginia, loves Pokémon, his dog Silver and playing games on his Nintendo 64. With Jabari’s spirited, witty and a joyful attitude, it’s no surprise his favorite part of the day is playtime. But, life for Jabari isn’t all fun and games. He has dysphagia, which makes it difficult for him to swallow, a speech disorder and hydrocephalus, requiring him to have an implanted shunt to release excess spinal fluid from going to his brain.
When Wish Coordinator Kara Stecker of Kids Wish Network was contacted about Jabari and his need for a special dose of happiness, she quickly “computed” how to make his only wish of owning a laptop computer come true. Taking it a step further, Jabari also received a printer, speakers and free Internet service for an entire year. He was so thrilled at what Kara had arranged, Jabari, unaware that Kids Wish Network’s office is located in Florida, asked her,” When are you coming over to visit and help set it up?”
Jabari spends countless hours on his new computer exploring the world, now at his fingertips. No matter how much energy he has, Jabari can always play on the computer and enjoy just being a kid – in the playground of his mind.
Kids Wish Network’s gratitude goes out to Gateway for offering the laptop computer at a discounted rate, making Jabari’s wish a dream come true.
