CLEARWATER – The Island Estates Woman’s Club is hosting a fashionable fundraiser inviting guests to “Celebrate Chic,” and indulge in a fashion show, luncheon and raffle, March 7, 2001 in the Tiffany Room at the Belleview Biltmore, 25 Belleview Blvd. The club is helping to make wishes come true, donating the event’s proceeds to Kids Wish Network, a charity whose mission is to fulfill the dreams of dying children in need of a special dose of happiness.
Social hour begins at 11 a.m., followed by a fashion show at noon, featuring fashions from Pat Lokey, Dana’s Boutique and Patchington. Lunch is served at 12:45 p.m. A personalized wish will be granted during the luncheon, showing guests firsthand the magic a wish can bring to a sick child’s life.
Help support other kids like Sarah, age 6, of Tampa, a little girl suffering with leukemia. She loves dressing up in frilly dresses, singing (some days she even sings all of her sentences) and most of all, her best friend Lamby, a plush toy lamb that rarely leaves her side. Kids Wish Network was contacted about Sarah’s only wish to visit Walt Disney World, and as usual, took her dream a step further. Her entire family enjoyed a vacation at Give Kids the World, a magical resort full of laughter, joy and hugs, catering to the unique needs of families who have children with life threatening illnesses. They enjoyed a full Orlando experience, visiting Walt Disney World theme parks, Universal Studios and Sea World. All attractions were compliments of Kids Wish Network and Give Kids the World.
Brittany, age 12, of Brandon, another “wish child,” struggles with ventricular hypertrophy, scoliosis, urostomy, subglottic stenosis, received a kidney transplant at age 3 and recently underwent back surgery. Instead of asking herself “why me?” Brittany chooses to spend her time educating and asking everyone around her to become an organ donor and help save hundreds of lives. Brittany’s wish was to bring her life saving mission to national television, and that’s just what Kids Wish Network gave her. Brittany and her family enjoyed a trip to New York and took in many of its wondrous sites. She also attended a live taping of the Rosie O’ Donnell Show, and met with Rosie, all even before the best part of her wish, making an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show with Al Roker, and broadcasting her big mission to people across the nation.
By attending Celebrate Chic, you can make a difference in more lives like Sarah’s and Brittany’s, and help bring happiness to children in need of an escape from stinging needles and scary hospital rooms. Tickets are $45 and available through the Island Estates Woman’s Club. Reservations are required by Wednesday, Feb. 28.
