Friday will be a day of big, big surprises for eight-year old Lindsay. Lindsay, who was diagnosed with leukemia three years ago, finished chemotherapy in April. Lindsay parents live with the daily fear that the terrible disease could ultimately take their daughter’s life.
When Lindsay was asked what she wished for, she wrote it in a letter as only an eight-year old could. The letter read, “A very big, big, big, big, big, big playhouse and a very long playhouse with bunk beds with soft pads and sheets and big blankets and pillows in the room and a kitchen and a easy bake oven and a lamp where the bunk beds are with wallpaper and a ceiling. And a wooden floor and furniture and a bathroom with a toilet and sink. The kitchen and a sink in bathroom and a table in the kitchen and windows with curtains and a garage and a bird bath and a porch and a pool.” Lindsay’s letter shows what a brilliant imagination this special little girl has. Lindsay’s social worker at Tampa Children’s Hospital fell in love with the letter and immediately called Kids Wish Network who she knew would swiftly go into action. She also shared the letter with the employees at Lindsay’s doctor’s office who have been waiting excitedly for Lindsay’s wish to unfold.
When Wish Coordinator, Shelley Breiner, called the local office of Habitat For Humanity was contacted regarding Lindsay’s wish, the entire staff was so enthralled with Lindsay’s request that they all volunteered to help Kids Wish Network make the wish for a playhouse come true. Thanks to the efforts of Kids Wish Network and Habitat For Humanity along with a host of other guardian angels, this Friday a big, big, big, big, big playhouse will be unveiled at Lindsay’s home in Riverview. No funds from Habitat For Humanity were used as all materials or services were donated by the following companies and vendors: Murphy Construction, 84 Lumber, Habitat Builder’s Surplus Store, Charlie Cousins Electrical and John Randall, Bradco Supply, The Home Depot-Seminole store, Larson Plumbing, ASI, Gator Gypsum, Robert Green Drywall, Ryder Trucks, and R.E.J. When Lindsay returns from summer camp, her dream playhouse will be waiting for her.
